EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
First discovered in 1987, EMDR is a clinical treatment to treat trauma. It is the most extensively researched treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR treatment includes the use of bilateral movement, which can include eye movement or bilateral stimulation. The eye movements include a left-right stimulation. This process helps to reprocess disturbing thoughts and memories.
I am a trained EMDR trained clinician and have taken the approved EMDR International Association trainings.
EMDR can be used for “small” or "large" traumas. Your present day concerns most often rests upon the unresolved issues of a past incident that can trigger dysfunctional emotions and the positive experience needed to enhance future adaptive behaviors and mental health. By addressing the “older” trauma, we can clear the path to address and ease the latest “trauma.”
After EMDR processing, clients generally report that the emotional distress related to the processed memory has been lessened and important cognitive insights can be discovered. Importantly, these cognitive changes can lead to behavioral and personal changes.
