Hypnosis
When you hear “hypnosis” you might think of the traditional form of hypnosis that we see on television or in the movies. This is where the powerful hypnotist implants suggestions in the subject, or swings a watch in front of the subject. Then the therapist states “you are getting sleepy.” In some movies, the subject will start to walk on all fours or bark. This is NOT hypnosis; this is simply entertainment. Hypnotic trance exists in many different forms in every day life. Sometimes it is recognized and utilized but most of the time it goes unnoticed (daydreaming and irrational fears). Hypnotherapy is simply the use of trance for therapeutic purposes. It allows us to tend to our unconscious.
I am trained in Erickson Hypnosis. Erickson Hypnosis is an indirect method of trance to promote change. By using his techniques, symptoms such as anxiety and/or depression can be treated. Based on the work of Milton H. Erickson, M.D. hypnosis provides a way to translate problems into solutions.
